The Event

Last week, HELEN MILLS was home to the Association of Independent Commercial Producers's (AICP) Week 2015 Base Camp, complete with hands-on virtual reality demos, panels featuring industry-leaders and visionaries, and of course ample networking. Panelists included executives and directors from GE, BBDO, Johannes Leonardo, 72andSunny, Facebook, BBH and more. Topics ranged from content development, creative partnerships, consumer marketing and logistical considerations for production.

In the same week, AICP held their Next Awards and AICP Show in NYC, honoring industry leaders in categories ranging from Direction to Animation to Humor to Student Work. For more information and a full list of the winners, see here.

Virtual Reality Immersion

In addition to the impressive speakers as well as talent showcased, the event featured five companies on the vanguard of Virtual Reality (VR) production and technology. Guests were able to explore first-hand the work of industry leaders Framestore, M ss ng P eces, Mirada, Tool of North America, and VRSE.works.

'Walking New York' by VRSE.Works

As part of the VR experience, Virtual reality production company VRSE.works showcased their recent collaboration with the New York Times, a film called 'Walking New York.' Guests were able experience intimate brainstorming sessions with the producers as well as stunning aerial views of the city from the edge of a helicopter seat. TV One Upfront Showcases Talent Over 5 Days

TV One showcased their new programming during their 2015 Experience Upfront at HELEN MILLS, which spanned five days of events including a fashion show, whiskey tasting, performances, and celebrity-filled music events.

The invite-only crowd got a first look at both new shows and upcoming seasons for returning shows including: Hollywood Divas, Fatal Attraction, Born Again Virgin, and The Weekly Show. See here for Ad Week's coverage of the event

The Entryway, the space exuded luxury and comfort. Images of icons flanked each of the walls. The TV One team made great use of the venue's gallery molding to hang lighting and set up gobo projections.

The Bar, TV One's branding was prominent throughout the venue. The bar was flanked by high stools to add extra comfort without limiting access for guests.

Seating for VIP Lunches Guests were treated to intimate meals for some of the presentations. The tables were set with gorgeous flower centerpieces, delicate chargers, and crisp white linens.

The Lounge Area was a great place for guests to mingle and talk about the presentations. The scene was set with comfortable couches, decorative sculptures, inspiring books and photographs along the walls.

Sci­‐fi Noir Short Film to Debut at Helen Mills Theater

Calling all film enthusiasts! Threshold Films will host the debut of their Sci-fi Noir Short Film "Selected" on Nov. 14, at the Helen Mills Theater. "Selected tells the story of a young man seeking revenge for the murder of his mother in a society with a crime-deterrent system that limits civil liberties. The film stars Tim Abell from “We Were Soldiers,” and “Soldiers of Fortune,” Ron Millkie of “Friday the 13th” and Zachary Karem.

The film debut is free to all invited - email zachary@thresholdfilms for your chance to attend. There will be a brief introduction and keynote about Threshold Films presented by the filmmakers. After the screening of the film, there will be a Q&A.

New York International Film Festival Screenings at HELEN MILLS

This past weekend, the HELEN MILLS Theater was home to two New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF) film premieres. The following are short descriptions of the films that premiered at HELEN MILLS Theater on May 30th through June 1st.

LAZARUS: Day of the Living Dead 1957 Hollywood CA. A telegram arrives at the office of George Lazarus, an Insurance Investigator to investigate a suspicious claim that was just put in by Deadly Sin Cigarette Company. Lazarus begins to schedule routine interviews with the twelve employees that are named on this claim. He learns that they all had just gotten fired for being sick at the job. …He never makes it back to the office.

Rooftops A young artist's work flow grinds to a halt when his teenage sister confides in him her unwanted pregnancy, dredging up memories from his past that have long gone ignored. So begins an intimate journey into a young man's past and the bond between brother and sister, taking them on a road trip from the hills of Pennsylvania to Ricky's old college town near Baltimore, where they search to bridge the gap between Ricky's past and his present.

PovertyCure International Short Film Festival

We were honored to have the PovertyCure International Short Film Festival and pre-Awards reception at our Event Space and Theater last night. The festival gave out an impressive $30,000 of awards to film makers including:

SPLIT/SCREEN Play Premieres at the Helen Mills Theater!

HELEN MILLS is excited to announce the premier of SPLIT/SCREEN at the HELEN MILLS Theater! The multimedia play  features performances by Alex Montaldo, jazz composer and pianist Ben Rosenblum, and recording artists Dev Avidon and Alida Rohr. The piece is directed by Michael Williams and written by Monique Witt, a retired international finance attorney turned writer and producer.
